RMYC Crews recognized by Forest Service
The Rocky Mountain Youth Corps started their second year of work on the forest restoration project in the La Lama hills near Questa in April. The RMYC received a $360,000 grant in 2011 to conduct a thinning project in the area. The thinning project promotes a healthier watershed, prevents catastrophic crowning wildfires, and improves forage for wildlife by reducing the number and density of small diameter trees. The RMYC was recognized by the Regional Forester for the huge success of thinning projects in the Carson National Forest.
