Substance Abuse Prevention Efforts
Rocky Mountain Youth Corps’ underage drinking reduction initiative, Parents Who Host, Lose The Most (PWH) educates parents and other adults about the health and safety risks of allowing underage drinking.
Some important facts:
- The human brain continues to develop into the mid-twenties.
- If alcohol is heavily consumed in adolescence, the part of the brain responsible for learning and memory can shrink by about ten percent.
- When drinking is delayed until age 21, a child’s risk of serious alcohol problems is decreased by 70%.
- You cannot legally allow a person under 21, other than your own child, to remain in your home or on your property while consuming or possessing alcohol. Parents and other adults can be prosecuted.
